Crafting Perfection in Our Journey
The story of Essence Coffee began in 2019. I started to become interested in coffee when the rather inexpensive coffee maker I was using was doing a poor job of wetting all the coffee grounds in the filter basket. I stirred the slurry to wet all the grounds and noticed a difference in the taste of the coffee from the times when I hadn't stirred the coffee. I found the difference in taste interesting, so I began experimenting with coffee. Pourovers of various types became an everyday occurance, usually one in the morning before work, and one in the evening around supper time. Pourovers are still a staple in my daily routine (although I enjoy many different brew methods). About a year after the run in with the coffee maker, I began roasting coffee for my wife (Kendra) and myself (Todd), family, and a friend or two on a small 400 gram Kaldi drum roaster, using the Artisan software to log my roasts. Fast forward three years and we are turning coffee into a small, passion driven business.

We believe coffee can be something truly spectacular! It does take perseverance on the part of many people though. Of course it starts with the farmers. The coffee we roast would be nothing without them, as well as many other people in the coffee supply chain not just doing their job, but doing it well! Green coffee is a very moisture sensitive agricultural product, so if someone in the supply chain doesn't do their job well, it has the potential to have irreversible negative characteristics in the cup. At Essence we are nearly always on the lookout for coffee offerings that will keep our list of coffee offerings unique and full of flavors that only well processed coffee can achieve!
